1. Handmade sugar scrubs
These are SO easy to make you will literally wonder why you havent done it in the past!
3 cups white or brown sugar
1 1/2 cups oil - coconut, olive, jojoba, almond, avocado. (any of those are fine it just depends on user preference)
20 drops of essential oil (i lean toward peppermint this time of year. but any will do honestly)
Glass canning jar (the pint jars work great for this!)
Small scrap of fabric to decorate the to top
In a large mixing bowl, place the sugar. Add the essential oil and stir until evenly distributed. Slowly pour in the oil and stir until well combined. Put the sugar and oil mixture into the glass canning jar, add the scrap of fabric between the lid and the ring, add the label with the type of sugar scrub (ie peppermint sugar scrub) and you are finished!
2. Homemade Vanilla Extract
Again this is so easy you will wonder why you have been paying so much for pure vanilla extract from the store.
one quart canning jar, or other large glass container
Vodka or rum~i find 80 proof works best. (its a taste thing. if you prefer a spicier vanilla go with the rum. more classic taste stick with the vodka. The cheaper the alcohol the better the extraction)
6-12 Vanilla beans~whole. ( you can purchase these online through amazon.com or frontiercoop.com for a decent price)
Take your vanilla beans and make a slit all the way down each bean. Add to your glass jar. Cover completely with your alcohol of choice. Seal tightly and place in a dark cupboard. Let sit for 6-8 weeks, shaking occasionally.
Divide into dark glass jars, label, and give away for gifts.
3. Men's Essential Oil Cologne
This one is also very easy to make and as it takes ingredients from the last two items is cost effective as well.
Essential oils of choice (manly scents include, frankincense, spruce, cedarwood, balsam, sandalwood, and patchouli.)
Heres a recipe i created. Feel free to tweak as needed.
400ml of vodka
30 drops of cedarwood
30 drops of spruce
25 drops of basalm
11 drops of lavender
Mix all together in a jar or bottle with tight lid. Let sit for a few days before placing in individual bottles and labeling for gifts. Come up with an earthy name for it.
Well i hope these help get your creative juices flowing and kickstart your handmade holiday.
